Evaluate COLMAP-free pose estimation against the current pipeline

Evaluate the reconstruction performance of COLMAP-free camera-pose estimation based on turntable-rotation priors relative to the existing multi-seed COLMAP pose-estimation pipeline.

Background

The authors are developing a COLMAP-free approach that uses rotation angles inferred from turntable speed and frame timestamps to initialize camera poses, followed by joint refinement of camera parameters and NeRF weights. This approach could reduce preprocessing time and reliance on feature-based structure-from-motion.

Although preliminary held-out results are described as encouraging, the paper does not establish whether the proposed turntable-rotation prior can match or improve the current COLMAP-based workflow. A formal performance comparison remains outstanding.

References

If successful, this would reduce reliance on COLMAP and potentially shorten pre-processing time, though performance relative to the current pipeline has not yet been formally evaluated.
