User Interface Representations for NBMP Workflows

Determine effective approaches for presenting workflows defined by ISO/IEC 23090-8 Network-Based Media Processing (NBMP) in user interfaces so that end users can visualize, monitor, and interact with the task graph and associated streams within NBMP-compliant systems.

Background

NBMP describes multimedia workflows declaratively as directed acyclic graphs of tasks connected via input and output streams, but it does not prescribe how these workflows should be visualized or interacted with in user interfaces. As a result, implementers and users lack guidance on UI paradigms that effectively convey workflow structure and dynamics.

Nagare media engine implements NBMP on Kubernetes and provides a full control and media plane, yet the presentation layer for NBMP workflows remains unspecified. The authors identify the lack of standard or best-practice UI models for NBMP workflows as an open area requiring research and design exploration.

How NBMP workflows could be presented in user interfaces is generally an open question and could be subject to further research.
