Superposition of CHFB states for neutron-deficient tin nuclei

Construct a superposition of constrained Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov (CHFB) states for neutron-deficient Sn nuclei and determine its impact on the calculated low-energy quadrupole observables after angular-momentum projection, thereby providing a complete description of their deformability.

Background

The paper finds remarkably flat potential-energy curves for neutron-deficient Sn nuclei, particularly around neutron number N=58, within the small deformation range |β₂|<0.08. This flatness indicates that several weakly deformed CHFB configurations may contribute appreciably rather than a single CHFB minimum providing an adequate description.

The authors therefore perform angular-momentum projection on the lowest-energy CHFB state and obtain reference B(E2) values that agree well with experiment. However, they explicitly state that a superposition of CHFB states is desirable and defer it to future work, leaving the complete treatment of configuration mixing among the nearly degenerate CHFB states unresolved.

References

Since the flat PECs suggest that a superposition of the CHFB states is desirable, which is left for a future work, these values serve merely as a reference.
