Standardization of Low-Voltage IT Trays

Establish dedicated standardization for low-voltage information-technology trays used in AI data-center power-delivery systems.

Background

AI data centers are driving a transition from conventional 48 V in-rack extra-low-voltage buses toward higher-voltage DC distribution, including emerging 800 V architectures. Although higher-voltage distribution can reduce conductor size and conduction losses, it introduces new requirements for conversion, insulation, protection, and interoperability at the rack and tray levels. The paper identifies the absence of dedicated standardization for low-voltage IT trays as an unresolved issue relevant to the reliable scaling of these architectures.
