Resolve the spectroscopic classification of NGC 1275
Determine the definitive spectroscopic classification of NGC 1275, including whether it should be classified as a type 1.5 Seyfert, a type 2 AGN, or another AGN subclass.
References
NGC 1275 is currently accepted as a type 1.5 Seyfert radio galaxy. However, a review of the literature suggests its classification is still not fully understood. Its classification seems to depend on the time of observing campaigns and the data quality. Some studies classified it as a type 2, while others could not reach a definite conclusion \citep[see][and references within]{punsly2018revealing, marin2025spectropolarimetry}.
