Quantification of AGE types and contents in bone

Quantify the types and concentrations of advanced glycation end-products present in bone tissue, including per-fibril or per-tropocollagen content, to enable empirical validation of mechanical models and assessment of AGE-induced changes in fibril mechanics.

Background

AGE composition and abundance directly affect fibril mechanics, but current models rely on assumed ranges due to the lack of quantitative measurements in bone.

Establishing robust quantification would support the calibration of coarse-grained molecular dynamics models and clarify the contribution of AGEs to bone fragility in diabetes.

References

Further, since AGEs types and contents have not been quantified in bone, the content we apply in our models cannot be verified with experimental data, and, hence, we vary the content to investigate its effect.
