Localization-oriented frequency allocation for multi-anchor underwater ISAC

Investigate localization-oriented frequency allocation for multi-anchor underwater integrated sensing and communication systems, for which the design space remains largely unexplored.

Background

The paper develops a subcarrier and power allocation framework for multi-anchor underwater ISAC systems, where frequency-dependent acoustic attenuation, colored noise, propagation distance, anchor geometry, communication quality-of-service constraints, and localization accuracy are jointly considered. It argues that existing resource-allocation methods are predominantly communication-oriented and therefore do not adequately address the heterogeneous localization information provided by different acoustic subcarriers.

The authors identify localization-oriented frequency allocation for multi-anchor underwater ISAC as an insufficiently studied research area. The proposed Bayesian A-optimal formulation and greedy allocation algorithm address this gap for the specific system model considered, while broader allocation methods and extensions remain to be investigated.
