Explicit occlusion-aware modeling of occluded light sources

Develop an explicit occlusion-aware mechanism for handling light sources occluded by scene geometry within captured views, instead of modeling their effects implicitly through the lens-flare representation.

Background

The current pipeline handles out-of-frame light sources using their projected depth, while light sources hidden by scene geometry are modeled implicitly through the learned flare representation. The authors state that an explicit mechanism for scene-geometry occlusion is unresolved and leave its development for future work.

References

Further, light sources out of frame are handled based on projected depth, however, those occluded by scene geometry within a captured view are currently handled implicitly through our flare representation model, rather than through an explicit occlusion-aware mechanism; we leave this to future work.
