Does TRS enhancement extend to asteroid-sized objects

Determine whether the observed enhancement of sub-meter-sized particles within the Taurid Resonant Swarm, a debris substructure in a 7:2 mean-motion resonance with Jupiter, extends to larger, asteroid-sized near-Earth objects within the same resonant corridor.

Background

The Taurid Resonant Swarm (TRS) is a dynamically concentrated substructure of the Taurid Complex, associated with comet 2P/Encke and possibly some asteroids, and trapped in a 7:2 mean-motion resonance with Jupiter. Enhanced meteor activity during Earth’s periodic encounters with TRS is well documented, confirming a richness in sub-meter-sized particles.

Whether similar enhancements apply to larger, asteroid-sized objects remains unresolved. Recent wide-field campaigns (ZTF, CFHT) have placed upper limits on the number of macroscopic TRS objects, but a definitive determination of an enhancement at asteroid scales has not yet been established.

References

Fireball observations have confirmed that the TRS is rich in sub-meter-sized particles, but whether this enhancement extends to larger, asteroid-sized objects remains unclear.
