Determine the fate of multi-oscillating boson stars

Determine whether multi-oscillating boson-star solutions inevitably decay into single-frequency boson stars under nonlinear evolution, or whether some remain dynamically persistent.

Background

The paper suggests that pseudo-oscillatons may provide examples of multi-frequency boson-star configurations that are energetically preferred to ordinary single-frequency boson stars. This raises a stability question extending beyond the specific solitonic model studied.

The authors note that the nonlinear stability and long-term fate of multi-oscillating solutions were not addressed in the cited prior work. Their simulations suggest that at least some such configurations may not decay, but they do not establish whether decay into single-frequency boson stars is inevitable in general.

Moreover, we have seen that the unbound-but-stable regime is an intriguing starting point for studying the nonlinear stability of multi-oscillators--- a natural question, left unaddressed in Ref., is whether these solutions will inevitably decay into single-frequency BSs, and our results suggest that in at least some cases they may not.
