Ablate the Components of Det-LIME

Quantify the contribution of each sequential component of the Det-LIME explanation pipeline through a systematic ablation study, rather than evaluating only the performance of the complete pipeline.

Background

Det-LIME combines several sequential stages, including superpixel segmentation and filtering, multi-instance weighting and perturbation scoring, IoU-based instance matching, and spatial focusing. The reported Attribution Ratio and Max Saliency Hit Rate assess only the final explanation produced by the complete workflow.

Because the intermediate stages are not independent attribution maps that can be evaluated in the same way as the final explanation, the study does not establish how much each component contributes to the observed performance. A systematic ablation would isolate these effects and quantify the value of each stage.

In addition, the present study evaluated Det-LIME as a complete workflow rather than isolating the contribution of each individual component. The components of Det-LIME are sequentially connected, with each step relying on the output of the previous one, and the intermediate results are not independent attribution maps that can be evaluated in the same way as the final explanation. Consequently, the reported metrics assess the performance of the full explanation pipeline rather than that of individual components. A systematic ablation study would help quantify the contribution of each stage and remains an important direction for future work.
