Effectiveness of combining PhastPadding with ETP or Phastimate

Determine whether combining Phastimate-based padding (PhastPadding) with Educated Temporal Prediction (ETP) or with Phastimate yields statistically significant improvements in instantaneous EEG phase estimation accuracy compared to using ETP or Phastimate alone.

Background

Chang et al. (2025) reported that Forecast Padding (PhastPadding) can enhance accuracy and that combining PhastPadding with other estimators such as ETP or Phastimate improves performance.

In the present study, the authors observed that while PhastPadding alone improved accuracy relative to ETP and Phastimate, they could not replicate the previously claimed gains from combining PhastPadding with ETP or Phastimate, leaving the true benefit of such combinations unresolved.

References

However, we could not replicate that combining PhastPadding with ETP or Phastimate would significantly improve either method.
