Effectiveness of AI-enabled governance across relationship types

Determine whether buyer AI-enabled environmental governance is more effective in buyer–supplier relationships characterized by higher transaction volume or greater supplier dependence.

Background

The study examines whether overseas suppliers’ exposure to buyers’ AI-enabled environmental governance is associated with fewer supplier environmental controversies. However, its empirical design does not include transaction-level or relationship-specific data that capture the depth and intensity of interfirm exchanges.

Because the analysis cannot distinguish among different types of buyer–supplier relationships, it leaves unresolved whether transaction volume and supplier dependence condition the effectiveness of AI-enabled environmental oversight. Resolving this question would clarify how relationship-specific characteristics shape the operation of digital governance within supply chains.

As a result, we are unable to distinguish whether AI-enabled environmental governance is more effective in relationships characterized by higher transaction volume or greater supplier dependence.
