The entropy and temperature of decoupled contributions to energy (2503.08753v1)
Abstract: We show that the existence of entropy and temperature is equivalent to a conservation law, which expresses the decoupling of hidden contributions to energy from the measurable ones with respect to some set of measurement procedures. We then apply this technique to define entropy and temperature in an arbitrary dynamical system, where a reduction procedure is specified that recovers the full geometric structure of thermodynamic phase space.
