Production of bound states of magnetic monopoles in high energy collisions at LHC

Published 29 Aug 2023 in hep-ph | (2308.15587v3)

Abstract: In this work, we present the studies carried out for the production of the monopolium at the LHC in ultraperipheral collisions for the processes $pp$ and $PbPb$. The monopolium is described by the bound state of a monopole-antimonopole pair, and we assume the study of the monopole in this characteristic state because the coupling constant is very large, which allows us to suggest that this exotic particle can be produced in the bound state. The monopolium is defined by a wave function arising from the numerical solution of the Schr\"{o}dinger equation for the modified Cornell potential. We used the photon fusion production mechanism, with the Weizs\"{a}cker-Williams and Drees-Zeppenfeld expressions to describe the lead and proton equivalent photon distributions. We estimate a high production rate of monopolium production for $pp$ collisions with $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV and $PbPb$ collisions with $\sqrt{s}=5.5$ TeV in LHC.
