Validity of the [10]-Asym transition-threshold comparison

Determine whether the slightly lower insulator-to-metal transition threshold observed for the asymmetric [10]-Asym model than for the [11] model is physically valid, rather than an artifact of the limited precision used to identify the transition point.

Background

The study compares the Mott-insulator-to-correlated-metal transition in three inhomogeneous cluster-DMFT configurations: the symmetric [10] model, the [11] model, and an asymmetric [10]-Asym model that includes a zero-potential site in the central plaquette. The transition occurs near an external-field strength of 0.35 for the [11] and [10]-Asym configurations, whereas the symmetric [10] configuration transitions at a substantially larger field strength of approximately 0.5.

The authors report that the [10]-Asym transition appears at a slightly lower field than the [11] transition, but they explicitly qualify this comparison because the transition point is inferred from discrete field values and the numerical precision of the approach is limited. Establishing whether this small difference is genuine would require more precise calculations or a more robust determination of the transition threshold.

References

Although regarding the former two models the transition by [10]-Asym occurs at a slightly lower value than that by [11], its validity is uncertain because of limited precision of our approach to identify the transition point.
