Superfluid composition g-modes in gravitationally coupled dark-matter neutron stars

Determine whether the degeneracy between gravitationally coupled dark matter and the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy persists for temperature-dependent superfluid composition g-modes in neutron stars with superfluid cores.

Background

The analysis computes composition g-modes for normal npeμ matter, whereas neutron-star cores may become superfluid below the neutron critical temperature. In npe matter, the usual composition g-modes disappear below this temperature, while the presence of muons can produce temperature-dependent superfluid g-modes at substantially higher frequencies.

The paper argues that gravitationally coupled dark matter affects the nucleonic fluid through the gravitational potential and through the nucleonic equation of state selected by the observational data, rather than through superfluid dynamics directly. The authors therefore expect the inferred degeneracy with the symmetry energy to persist, but they do not calculate the superfluid oscillation problem. Establishing this requires computing the relevant temperature-dependent superfluid modes in the presence of a gravitationally coupled dark component.

References

The dark matter acts on the nucleons only through $\Phi'$ and through the nucleonic EOS that the data select, neither of which involves the superfluid dynamics, so we expect the degeneracy with the symmetry energy to carry over, but we have not computed it.
