Random close packing contact number Zc for PAMs

Determine the contact number at random close packing Zc for three-dimensional polycatenated architected materials (PAMs), to enable quantitative application of kinetic-theory-based viscosity scaling and accurate normalization of rheological responses.

Background

In applying kinetic theory to PAMs, the authors replaced packing density p with mean contact number (Z) and used Zc as an analog of the contact number at random close packing to normalize viscosity scaling. Due to the lack of a known Zc for PAMs, they estimated it using the mean contact number after gravity settlement.

Establishing Zc would refine rheological scaling laws and improve comparability across PAM architectures and loading conditions.
