Determine to what extent the effective-particle-size approach remains reliable for particles with sparse asperity coverage, strongly orientational asperity lockings, or multiple particle components.

Background

The simulations primarily examine one-component rough particles with specified, relatively regular asperity coverage. The authors identify several regimes that were not established by the present calculations: sparse coverage, configurations in which asperities produce strong orientational locking, and multicomponent systems. The reliability of the proposed mapping in these settings therefore remains unresolved.
