Propagation of moist clusters in the globally coupled model

Investigate the horizontal propagation of moist clusters observed in time-evolving simulations of the globally coupled extended Ahmed–Neelin (2019) moisture model, and ascertain the mechanisms and conditions controlling such propagation.

Background

Time evolution in the largest-domain globally coupled run exhibits horizontally propagating moist structures, a phenomenon outside the study’s primary focus on scale selection.

The authors explicitly set aside this propagation behavior and identify it as a problem to be addressed in future work.

References

Although the horizontal propagation of cluster as observed in Figure 3c is an interesting phenomenon, the scope of this study is limited to horizontal scale selection, and we leave the propagation problem as a future issue.
