Determine whether planet–planet occultations (PPOs) occurred in the GO 3077 light curve

Ascertain the presence of planet–planet occultations between TRAPPIST-1 b and c in the JWST/MIRI GO 3077 time-series by achieving decisive statistical evidence for or against PPO signals in the fitted photometric model.

Background

The program 3077 phase-curve observation includes epochs where planet–planet occultations are expected. Model comparisons with and without PPOs yield a Bayes factor of 12.8 in favor of including PPOs, which is classified as strong but not decisive evidence.

Given the current statistical strength, the authors explicitly state that a robust detection cannot be concluded, leaving the PPO occurrence in this dataset unresolved.

We cannot thus conclude to a robust detection of PPOs in our program 3077 light curve.
