Investigate MAM and monsoon-break easterly wind setups for severe convective storms in Luzon

Investigate the role of prevailing easterly winds during March–May and during monsoon breaks in initiating severe convective storms in the Luzon severe-weather hotspot, including the Greater Metro Manila–Central Luzon corridor, and identify the mesoscale mechanisms involved.

Background

The paper proposes a plausible mechanism for Southwest Monsoon season severe storms involving lee cyclogenesis behind the Zambales Mountain Range, but notes that alternative synoptic setups under easterly flow during March–May and monsoon breaks are poorly characterized.

A focused paper of these easterly regimes would broaden understanding of multiple pathways to severe convection in the hotspot region.

References

On the other hand, prevailing easterly winds conditions during MAM season and monsoon breaks that can potentially lead to severe convective storms remains understudied.
