Extend simple control policies beyond the analyzed operating regime

Extend the full-load and partial-load compressor control policies beyond the operating regime in which the mean heat demand exceeds the full-load capacity of compressor c1 and the maximum heat demand does not exceed the combined capacities of compressors c1 and c2, and formally characterize their performance relative to the optimal dynamic-programming policy.

Background

The paper develops full-load and partial-load policies for a two-compressor setting subject to a specific capacity-demand relationship: the mean heat load exceeds the full-load capacity of the more efficient compressor, while the maximum heat load remains within the combined capacity of both compressors. The authors do not establish how these policies behave outside that regime, nor do they provide formal performance guarantees comparing them with the optimal dynamic-programming policy. Extending the policies and deriving such a comparison are identified as future research directions.

Further, the simple policies in this work are developed under the operating regime in~eq:simple-policy-regime, which relates the compressor capacities to the mean and maximum heat loads. Extending these policies beyond this regime and formally characterizing their performance relative to the optimal policy are important directions for future work.
