Determine whether the simulation domain limits the vertical extent of the magnetic vortex

Investigate whether the vertical extent of the simulation box limits the height reached by the modeled magnetic vortex or swirl structure by repeating the identical radiative magnetohydrodynamic simulation with a taller computational domain.

Background

The simulation uses a computational domain extending from 3 Mm below the photosphere to 5 Mm above it. Although the analyzed event remains below 4.5 Mm and no clear evidence was found that reflections from the upper boundary dominate its evolution, the authors note that the measured height of the swirl may be artificially constrained by the finite vertical extent of the computational box. Resolving this issue requires repeating the simulation with the same physical and numerical setup but a taller domain.

References

The swirl height may be limited by the vertical extent of our simulation box \citep{Cherry2026}; this possibility should be investigated in the future by using an identical setup with a taller box.
