Resolution required to resolve vertically shearing streaming instability

Determine whether the vertically shearing streaming instability can be resolved in the global, stratified dust-and-gas simulations by increasing the numerical resolution beyond that used in the present study.

Background

The broad dust-density component appears to converge, whereas the midplane component continues to change with resolution. The authors suggest that different density components may trace different turbulence mechanisms, including vertically shearing streaming instability, and therefore question whether the available resolution is sufficient.

References

If this is true, it suggests that a critical resolution for convergence is higher for streaming turbulence. Because we find strong indications of convergence in the broad component, this raises the question of whether we can resolve the vertically shearing streaming instability .
