Determine the physical cutoff scale for the generalized Lednicky–Lyuboshitz wave function

Determine the exact cutoff value separating the interior region, where the asymptotic wave function is not applicable, from the exterior region in the generalized Lednicky–Lyuboshitz treatment of higher-partial-wave nuclear correlations, thereby resolving the arbitrariness associated with choosing the cutoff parameter r_c.

Background

The method regularizes the divergence of the higher-partial-wave asymptotic scattering wave function at small separation by using the incoming wave alone for r<r_c and the asymptotic scattering form for r>r_c. The cutoff is intended to approximate the finite range of the nuclear force, which is roughly 1 fm, but the interior wave function cannot be determined from phase-shift data alone.

The authors set r_c=1 fm for their calculations and treat its dependence as a model uncertainty. Their numerical results indicate that the cutoff has little effect on the s-wave contribution but substantially affects the p-wave magnitude, motivating the additional nuisance parameter g_p. A principled determination of the exact cutoff would therefore reduce an important source of short-range model dependence in resonance extraction.

References

The cutoff r_c is roughly set to the range of nuclear forces. However, there is no clear method to determine its exact value.
