Determine downstream lesion-analysis consequences of mask placement

Determine whether the geometric differences among BET, fsl_anat, and A³PreCore brain masks improve downstream lesion sensitivity, regional lesion-burden estimation, or clinical associations when used in FLAIR-based lesion-segmentation pipelines.

Background

The study evaluates brain-mask generation and cross-modal placement rather than downstream white-matter-hyperintensity or lesion-segmentation performance. The authors note that improved mask geometry may not translate into better lesion detection or clinical measurements, particularly near peripheral and inferior boundaries. A controlled downstream comparison with manual lesion annotations is therefore unresolved.

References

Whether these differences improve downstream lesion or clinical measurements remains to be determined.
