Determine whether existing sustainability anti-pattern categories require extension or whether entirely new categories are needed to account for the socio-technical dynamics created by AI-assisted development and agentic systems.

Background

The paper emphasizes that AI-assisted development and agentic systems are increasing the speed and automation of software-development decision-making. According to the paper, these changes may create new socio-technical dynamics and may allow sustainability problems to emerge and compound without adequate human oversight.

The authors therefore leave unresolved whether the proposed and existing categories of sustainability anti-patterns adequately represent AI-assisted and agentic development, or whether the field must extend the categories or introduce new ones.
