Validate InsClaimBench under realistic claim-document uncertainty

Extend InsClaimBench to real claim documents and determine whether the judgment-update failures and gaps between decision correctness and payment correctness observed with synthetic claim files persist under the missing, inconsistent, or conflicting evidence characteristic of real-world insurance documentation.

Background

InsClaimBench uses synthetic claim files because they permit precise control over factual changes and reference answers. The authors acknowledge that this design does not fully represent the ambiguity of real-world claim documentation, where evidence may be missing, inconsistent, or conflicting and adjudication may consequently be less controlled.

The unresolved problem is to extend the benchmark to real claim documents and test whether two central findings—failures to update judgments correctly after factual changes and discrepancies between decision correctness and payment correctness—continue to hold under realistic uncertainty. This is presented as future work tied directly to a concrete unknown, rather than as a general aspiration.

References

Future work can therefore extend the benchmark to real claim documents and examine whether the judgment-update failures and gaps between decision correctness and payment correctness observed here persist under more realistic uncertainty.
