Test the reality of the synchrotron-to-inverse-Compton transition

Determine whether the inferred synchrotron-to-inverse-Compton transition in the PSR B0540--69 pulsar wind nebula is genuine through detailed phase-resolved spectroscopy from several hundred MeV to a few GeV.

Background

The available broadband spectral energy distribution does not provide sufficient coverage to reveal a clear synchrotron-to-inverse-Compton transition. The paper identifies phase-resolved gamma-ray spectroscopy as a means of separating pulsed magnetospheric emission from nebular emission and testing whether the apparent transition is a real feature of the nebular spectrum.

References

Detailed phase-resolved spectroscopy from several hundred MeV to a few GeV would improve the separation of the pulsed magnetospheric and nebular components and test whether the inferred synchrotron-to-IC transition is genuine.
