Spin distribution of supermassive black holes in Little Red Dots

Determine the spin values and spin distribution of supermassive black holes in Little Red Dots (LRDs) to enable accurate estimates of the Hills mass and the fraction of tidal disruption events that produce observable electromagnetic counterparts at z≈4–6.

Background

The detectability and properties of tidal disruption events depend on the black hole spin through the Hills mass, which sets the maximum black hole mass capable of disrupting stars outside the event horizon. Knowledge of spin also informs accretion histories and feedback.

In the absence of spin measurements for SMBHs in LRDs, the paper makes simplifying assumptions for rate estimates and notes that precise spin information would refine the fraction of observable TDEs.

The spin values of the SMBHs in the LRDs are also not known.
