Physical origin of the emission-line components near J1429+5447

Determine whether the emission-line components A and B near quasar J1429+5447 are companion galaxies, AGN-related ionized structures, or other physically associated sources.

Background

The NIRSpec integral-field data reveal multiple emission-line components around J1429+5447. Component A is spatially separated from the quasar and has narrow, redshifted emission, making it a possible companion galaxy, while component B is faint and lacks detected continuum, leaving its association with a nearby HST point source uncertain.

The observed line ratios do not distinguish star-formation excitation from AGN excitation for component A, and the low signal-to-noise measurements limit interpretation of component B. The paper states that deeper JWST/NIRSpec observations are required to establish the physical origin of these features.

References

Especially for components A and B, deeper JWST/NIRSpec observations are necessary to further investigate their physical origin.

The nature of this source remains unclear, although it is plausibly either a foreground star or a faint compact galaxy.
