Determine the origin of the large isospin-symmetry violation

Determine the origin of the unexpectedly large violation of isospin symmetry observed in charged-over-neutral kaon production in multiparticle production at CERN SPS energies.

Background

The paper discusses measurements by the NA61/SHINE Collaboration indicating an 18 ± 6% excess of charged over neutral kaons at mid-rapidity in central Ar+Sc collisions at √sNN = 11.9 GeV. This magnitude substantially exceeds the few-percent isospin-symmetry violations expected from established mechanisms and is not reproduced by the theoretical models considered in the paper.

The authors identify the physical origin of the effect as unresolved, motivating additional experimental measurements and theoretical work on kaon production, collision-energy dependence, and system-size dependence.

Thus, the theoretical explanation of the reported unexpectedly large violation of isospin symmetry in multiparticle production is still to come.
