Origin of the discrepancy between stellar-radius determinations

Establish the origin of the discrepancy between radii derived from surface-brightness--color relations and radii calculated from bolometric magnitudes and spectroscopic effective temperatures for candidates CAN-03, CAN-08, CAN-10, CAN-11, and CAN-16.

Background

The authors compare radii obtained using several surface-brightness--color relations with radii inferred through the Stefan--Boltzmann law from absolute bolometric magnitudes and spectroscopic effective temperatures. Most candidates show reasonable agreement between the two approaches.

Several objects, however, have clearly overestimated radii when the second method is used. Binarity is suspected for CAN-08 and CAN-16, but the cause of the discrepancy for the full set of discrepant stars, particularly CAN-03, CAN-10, and CAN-11, is not resolved.
