Observer-validated evaluation of the mesopic display transform

Evaluate the OKLCH-native mesopic display transform driven by the characterized closed-form scotopic-to-photopic ratio against observer judgments to determine its psychophysical appearance fidelity.

Background

The paper evaluates the closed-form scotopic-to-photopic ratio against physical hyperspectral ground truth rather than evaluating the perceived appearance produced by the mesopic display transform that uses this signal. The transform is presented only through an illustrative before-and-after example, and its parameters and perceptual fidelity are explicitly outside the scope of the study.

A remaining problem is therefore to conduct a psychophysical or observer-based validation, including observer matching, to establish whether the physiologically motivated transform produces the intended mesopic appearance.

References

The transform itself is out of scope here, and a full evaluation, including observer matching, is future work.
