Nature of the radio source labeled S7? near SpARCS1049+56

Ascertain the astrophysical nature and association (foreground versus cluster member) of the radio source labeled S7? near SpARCS1049+56, which remains uncertain based on current multi-wavelength data.

Background

In disentangling diffuse cluster emission from unrelated sources in a crowded high-redshift field, several foreground galaxies and associated radio AGN were identified. While the authors mask these sources when computing the mini-halo power and profile, one potential contaminant, denoted S7?, lacks a definitive classification.

Resolving the nature of S7? is important for fully validating the mini-halo power estimate and for accurate source attribution in the vicinity of the cluster, although the authors note that excluding S7? changes the mini-halo power by only ~5%, not affecting the main conclusions.

While its nature remains uncertain, S7? aligns with a galaxy (panel e) and a faint 1.5 GHz AGN (panel g) in Fig.~\ref{fig:supp2}, but is not detected in the LOFAR International data.
