Long-term safety and in vivo gastrointestinal deployment

Evaluate the long-term safety, in vivo delivery, and deployment of the magnetothermally triggered capsule under physiological gastrointestinal conditions.

Background

The study demonstrates protected capsule transport, magnetothermal opening, and microrobot deployment on a three-dimensional printed platform and ex vivo porcine stomach tissue. However, these experiments do not establish whether the capsule is safe during prolonged use or whether it can reliably deliver and deploy microrobots in a living gastrointestinal tract under physiological conditions. The authors explicitly identify these evaluations as requiring further study.

The stability of the hydrogel latch under prolonged exposure to gastric and intestinal environments also remains to be systematically investigated, as variations in pH, ionic strength, and fluid exposure may affect its mechanical integrity and triggering behavior.
