Kinetic theory of three-component Hall and magnetotransport

Develop a systematic kinetic treatment of Hall and magnetotransport in the three-component charge-neutral regime of near-critical HgTe quantum wells, where Dirac electrons, Dirac holes, and heavy holes coexist with distinct mobilities and intercomponent friction.

Background

The paper identifies temperature- and gate-dependent Hall, magnetoresistance, and thermal-transport measurements as decisive tests of the proposed hybrid-plasma interpretation. In the charge-neutral regime, however, multiple carrier species may contribute simultaneously, and their unequal mobilities and intercomponent scattering prevent a straightforward single-carrier Drude analysis.

The authors therefore leave a systematic treatment of the three-component transport response for future work. Such a theory is needed to interpret anomalous Hall and magnetotransport signals and to distinguish the contributions of Dirac electrons, Dirac holes, heavy holes, disorder, and interspecies friction.

References

A systematic Hall and magnetotransport analysis of this three-component regime therefore requires a separate kinetic treatment and will be addressed in future work.
