Generalization of Empirical Geometry Thresholds

Investigate whether the empirically selected PDOP-like threshold of 3 for DOWR-bias updates and VDOP-like threshold of 6 for radiometric position updates generalize to lunar rover trajectories and observation geometries beyond the simulated scenario.

Background

The navigation architecture uses geometry-screening thresholds to determine when DOWR-bias updates and radiometric position updates should be accepted. In the simulations, these thresholds were selected empirically for one representative lunar south-pole trajectory and satellite configuration.

Because the thresholds may depend on trajectory characteristics, satellite visibility, SS–rover geometry, measurement weighting, and the availability of DOWR observations, their applicability to other mission conditions remains unresolved.

These threshold values were selected empirically for the considered scenario; their generalization to other trajectories and geometries remains to be investigated.
