Frontier-scale executor need for a separate memory composer

Determine whether a frontier-scale executor capable of judging candidate memories independently would benefit from a separate composer to the same extent as the 4B and 8B executors evaluated in MemComposer.

Background

MemComposer is trained as an assembly policy for a single frozen executor, although the paper demonstrates transfer to another executor. The authors do not characterize how executor capabilities affect preferred memory quantity, length, ordering, or the usefulness of failed experiences.

The evaluated executors have only 4B and 8B parameters. It therefore remains unresolved whether a much larger, frontier-scale executor that can assess candidate memories on its own would still gain comparable benefits from a separately trained memory composer.

References

Both executors in this work have 4B and 8B parameters; it remains open whether a frontier-scale executor that can judge candidate memories on its own would benefit from a separate composer to the same extent.
