Evaluate sensitivity to alternative analysis settings

Evaluate the sensitivity of motif-based ECG trajectory analysis to alternative analysis settings in order to determine whether the reported pre-ventricular-fibrillation morphological trajectories and early-warning results are robust to methodological choices.

Background

The study uses fixed methodological choices, including 10-second ECG windows, a 15-minute personalised baseline, robust z-score normalisation, a z-score threshold of 3, and an abnormal-burden criterion requiring at least 40% abnormal windows sustained for 2 minutes. The authors report exploratory evidence that motif-based trajectories capture morphological changes preceding ventricular fibrillation, but they do not establish whether the findings depend on these settings.

The unresolved issue is whether alternative window lengths, baseline definitions, thresholds, persistence criteria, or related analysis choices would materially change the reported detection horizons and trajectory characteristics. The authors identify this sensitivity analysis as necessary before validation in larger cohorts and prospective studies.
