Determine the actual radius of Proxima Centauri b

Determine the actual radius of Proxima Centauri b, which is unknown due to the absence of a detected transit and is currently estimated under assumptions about bulk density.

Background

Because Proxima Centauri b has not been observed to transit its host star, its radius cannot be measured directly from transit depth. In this work, the authors estimate a radius of 1.1 Earth radii by assuming Earth-like density, but they explicitly note that the true value is unknown.

The radius is crucial for inferring planetary composition, surface gravity, and atmospheric scale height. Accurate knowledge of the radius would reduce uncertainties in climate simulations and in the interpretation of prospective observations of Earth-like exoplanets orbiting M-dwarfs.

As a caveat, we acknowledge the fact that the actual radius of Proxima Centauri b is unknown because no transit has been detected so far (Kipping et al., 2017).
