Develop Methods to De-Embed Material Loss from Volumetric Core Loss

Develop and validate methods for de-embedding magnetic material loss $P_{dm}$ from measured volumetric core loss $P_V$, or for guaranteeing that measured $P_V$ is free from high-frequency ac effects.

Background

The paper distinguishes volumetric core loss PVP_V, which depends on core size, shape, and high-frequency electromagnetic effects, from the material loss PdmP_{dm} required by finite-element simulations of miniaturized magnetic designs. At high frequencies and for large cores, dimensional resonance, eddy-current effects, shape, and surface processing can make PVP_V differ from the intrinsic material property. The authors explicitly state that no demonstrated method currently resolves this distinction or guarantees ac-effect-free measurements.

However, methods for de-embedding magnetic loss $P_{dm}$ from $P_V$, or guaranteeing that the measured $P_V$ is free of ac effects, have not yet been demonstrated.
