Develop an alternative wavefront algorithm with seed cleanup regions

Develop and investigate an alternative wavefront decoding algorithm that assigns seed cleanup regions, rather than seed commit regions, to portions of logical qubits participating in consecutive multi-qubit Pauli measurements, thereby removing the requirement for idle rounds between consecutive measurements.

Background

The paper’s staged-decoding construction assumes that every logical qubit participating in a multi-qubit Pauli measurement receives a spatial seed commit region throughout the measurement’s syndrome rounds. To maintain this assumption for consecutive measurements involving the same logical qubit, the numerical experiment inserts a full code-distance interval of idle rounds between measurements.

The authors explicitly note that an alternative construction could instead assign a seed cleanup region to a portion of the logical qubits during a subsequent measurement. Developing such a construction would allow consecutive measurements without the present idle-round constraint and would require a corresponding modification of the wavefront partitioning algorithm.

References

This does not mean however that we cannot use an alternative wavefront algorithm where a portion of the logical qubits are assigned a seed cleanup region rather than a seed commit region. Such investigations are left to future work.
