Symmetric threshold-linear networks implement sharply separated and completed memory retrieval via structural properties:

  • Antichain Property: In networks with symmetric WW, no stored pattern is a subset or superset of another. The supports of all stable fixed points form an antichain in the Boolean lattice, rigorously partitioning the basins of attraction, thereby ensuring pattern separation (Curto et al., 2015).
  • Clique Networks: For any graph GG, maximal cliques define the supports of stable fixed points. This permits encoding arbitrary binary pattern collections, enforcing disjoint attractors and perfect completion: any partial input flows to its unique completion (Curto et al., 2015).

Applications in hippocampal place-field decoding utilize threshold-linear dynamics for robust error correction. Given noisy spatial codes, network integration converges to the correct encoded location with mean Euclidean error <0.1<0.1 box units, even under heavy false-positive/negative noise rates, confirming resilience to input corruption and efficacy of completion mechanisms (Curto et al., 2015).

Pattern separation and completion interfaces with memory consolidation, continual learning, and sparse signal decomposition.
