Independence of premise for intuitionistic Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory

Published 8 Oct 2026 in math.LO | (2610.11753v1)

Abstract: We answer the following question by Frittaion, Nemoto, and Rathjen positively: "Is [independence of premise] an admissible rule of CZF\textsf{CZF} or any other familiar constructive/intuitionistic set theory TT?" To be more precise, we show that whenever IZF\textsf{IZF} (or CZF\textsf{CZF} with full separation) derives a statement of the form ¬ψ→∃y φ(y)\lnotψ\to \exists y\ \varphi(y) where yy does not occur in ψψ, then IZF\textsf{IZF} (or CZF\textsf{CZF} with full separation) also derives ∃y (¬ψ→φ(y))\exists y\ (\lnotψ\to \varphi(y)). Our proof method is a variant of the famous Friedman-Dragalin AA-translation adapted to the context of set theory in a hereditary manner.
