On MMS allocations with few items

Published 5 Oct 2026 in cs.GT | (2610.06125v1)

Abstract: We consider the problem of allocating mm indivisible items to nn agents. For n≥2n \ge 2, we define μ(n)μ(n) as the largest mm for which every allocation instance with nn agents and mm items has an allocation that gives each agent at least her maximin share (MMS). We prove that for general monotone valuations, μ(n)=n+Θ(log⁡n)μ(n) = n + Θ(\log n). This holds both for goods and for chores. For arbitrary valuations (not monotone), we prove that μ(n)=log⁡n+O(1)μ(n) = \log n + O(1).
