Eilenberg-MacLane spaces in A-homotopy theory

Published 2 Oct 2026 in math.AT | (2610.03497v1)

Abstract: In this paper we study a discrete homotopy theory for undirected graphs. More precisely, we consider AA-homotopy groups, first defined in the work of Barcelo, Kramer, Laubenbacher and Weaver. For every degree nn and every group GG (Abelian if n≥2n\geq 2), we construct a graph whose nn-th AA-homotopy group is isomorphic to GG and whose other AA-homotopy groups all vanish. Using these, we show that for every infinite sequence of groups G1,G2,…G_1,G_2,\ldots, with GiG_i Abelian for i≥2i\geq 2, there is a graph XX such that the ii-th AA-homotopy group of XX is isomorphic to GiG_i for all ii. Along the way, we identify relative AA-homotopy groups with relative classical homotopy groups, and prove a discrete version of the Blakers-Massey theorem. We then construct partial Postnikov systems and (full) Whitehead towers.
