A study of mm-ary partitions whose conjugates are qq-ary

Published 8 Sep 2026 in math.CO | (2609.08799v1)

Abstract: While people have studied mm-ary partitions of an integer nn and studied conjugation of partitions of nn, these topics are rarely mixed because the mm-ary property is almost always lost after conjugation. In a previous work, Flowers and Lockard investigated mm-ary partitions of nn whose conjugates were also mm-ary. We generalize that previous work by studying mm-ary partitions whose conjugates are qq-ary, where mm and qq may be distinct. We provide a family of operators on these partitions that can be used to generate all such partitions uniquely and associate a unique polynomial with each partition based on the sequence of operators used to generate it. Using the generating operators and modular arithmetic we explore many examples and families of mm-ary partitions whose conjugates are qq-ary.
