Flipping Matchings is Hard

Published 4 Mar 2025 in cs.CG and cs.DM | (2503.02842v1)

Abstract: Given a point set P\mathcal{P} and a plane perfect matching M\mathcal{M} on P\mathcal{P}, a flip is an operation that replaces two edges of M\mathcal{M} such that another plane perfect matching on P\mathcal{P} is obtained. Given two plane perfect matchings on P\mathcal{P}, we show that it is NP-hard to minimize the number of flips that are needed to transform one matching into the other.
